Michał Rzeszewski – Principal Investigator
Michał Rzeszewski is an associate professor at the Faculty of Human Geography and Planning at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland. His research focuses on the intersection of digital technologies and spatial practice within the realms of critical GIS, geosocial media, and immersive environments such as virtual and augmented reality.
Rzeszewski’s scholarly contributions critically examine how digital media and spatial data influence human interactions with space and place. His work examines the ethical and methodological challenges posed by the use of big data in socio-economic geography, emphasizing the importance of a critical approach to data analysis. He explores the role of spatial media in geographic research, highlighting their impact on the relationship between space, individuals, and technology.
His background is within Earth Sciences, where he got Ph.D by doing geochemical and sedimentological analysis of backbarier marshes and tsunami deposits. Beyond and within academia he actively engages in public scholarship and open science initiatives related to participatory mapping and geoinformation education. Michał is committed to interdisciplinary collaboration with fields such as urban planning and digital humanities as well as participatory actions involving citizen science and breaching technological barriers and digital divides.
